‘Exceptionally light’ is the simple design brief for this Down Jacket. Whether it’s for ultralight racing, lightweight backpacking and trekking, or fast-moving Alpine ascents, the Ladakh has been planned with one aim only -- real warmth for minimum weight.
You can customize this down jacket in these ways:
Drishell is a Ripstop nylon fabric with an ultralight coating. It achieves total windblock, along with high breathability and effective water resistance. Superbly efficient for a very light overall fabric weight (approx 56g/sm).
MX is a superfine mini-ripstop nylon with excellent tear strength. MX is the pick of the latest generation of superfine down proof materials. We have tested even lighter fabrics, but so far they have all had significant drawbacks, while our confidence in MX is based on several years of extensive use (approx 32g/sm).
M1 is a superfine silky microfibre. The close weave produces a tight solid fabric, but so light that it reduces weight and allows maximum loft (approx 42g/sm).
Cheaper to more expensive:
M1 > MX > Drishell
Lighter to heavier:
MX > M1 > Drishell
Our 900 fill power down is a European goose down of rare quality. A truly excellent down with large clusters, consistent quality and lively long-term performance. The fillpower average is about 900 and the down has demonstrated remarkable performance in actual use.
Our 1000 fill power down is a European goose down of unique quality with exceptionally large lively clusters. It is the best down we’ve handled in over 50+ years in the business.
A detailed sizing table is shown when you progress to the ‘select size’ stage. When you select a size, measure yourself without clothing, exactly the way you would buy a shirt or sweater. A 42" (107cm) chest means that your bare chest uninflated measures 42". Your trouser size gives you a good indication of waist measurement, and is usually measured just above the hip bone. Inside Arm is measured from armpit to wrist-bone.
This jacket is available in custom sizes from XS to XXL. Once you’ve selected a body width you can choose body length and/or inside arm up to two sizes bigger or smaller. So, for example, an XXL width body can have an XXL, XL or L body length and/or inside arm.
Sizing allowances. Our Down Jackets are sized to fit over thermal underwear and fleece.
The Typical Operating Temperature (TOT) figure is the minimum temperature the jacket will be used at for: short static periods or periods of low / medium activity.
This means a jacket would be far too warm for its quoted TOT in periods of sustained high effort e.g. sledge-hauling (at altitude effort is great, but movement tends to be slow). It also means it would be OK, but chilly, to bivouac in it at these temperatures. The figures assume you can keep the insulation dry.
High altitude and extreme weather introduce new sets of rules, not covered here. The more critical the decision, the more weight you should give to human knowledge and judgement, which can bring into play the relevant variables. As always experience, your own and other people's, provides the best and subtlest guide.
